Color Happy’s founder, Rayven Perkins, is on a happiness quest. She firmly believes that the secret to success is to Be. Happy. Now.
When Rayven was sick during her 5th pregnancy as a surrogate mother, she turned to coloring as much needed therapy for her morning sickness. She loved coloring books so much that she decided to create her own books that dealt with infertility and pregnancy.
Around the same time, a friend had started a coloring pages membership website, but no longer had the resources to keep it running. Rayven bought the website, but wanted more – she envisioned an inclusive community of positive, happy coloring enthusiasts, working together to change lives with color and joy.
Having been a leader in a network marketing company before, Rayven realized the profound opportunity her coloring pages could provide, and set out on her quest to build community through coloring. And that is how Color Happy was born.
Rayven adopted the symbol of the butterfly as the icon of Color Happy.
Imagine, if you will, a young caterpillar sitting on a leaf. He is eating, as he does every day, all the while grumbling about his lot in life. Day in and day out, eating. Growing. Grumbling.
“Someday,” thinks the caterpillar, “Someday all of this eating will be worth it. I’ll be a butterfly. I’ll be able to spread my beautiful wings and soar above the clouds, drinking the sweet nectar of the most beautiful flowers. Everyone will envy me and my beauty. Someday, the world will be mine.”
So, he continues. Eating. Grumbling. Growing. Day after day.
One day, a grasshopper comes hopping by. “Ahoy, Caterpillar! Fine day, isn’t it? Would you be interested in joining me on a hop down to the river? I hear there is a spectacular view. I’d be happy to carry you along.”
“Carry me along?” Sneered the caterpillar. “Why would I want to be carried like a handbag? One day soon, I will be a butterfly and then I will FLY to the river. I will be so happy then.”
“Suit yourself,” said the grasshopper, and he hopped off without him.
The caterpillar went back to work on his eating, and growing, and grumbling. Poor, unhappy thing! Soon, a ladybug came by. “Hello, Caterpillar! Beautiful evening, isn’t it? Lots of bugs are getting together for a social – would you like to join us? It’s going to be a lot of fun!”
“Fun?” sneered the caterpillar. “I’ll have fun when I’m a butterfly.”
“Suit yourself”, said the ladybug, and she flew away.
Finally, the day came! The caterpillar spun his cocoon, and after his metamorphosis, emerged as the beautiful butterfly of his dreams! He spread his wings. He soared above the clouds. He drank the delicious nectar of the most beautiful flowers.
And yet…something didn’t feel right. “I don’t understand,” the butterfly pondered, “everything was to be so perfect when I became a butterfly. But, although I have everything I’ve ever wanted – the beautiful wings, the ability to fly, and the sweet taste of the most delicious nectar, I am not happy.”
Saddened, the butterfly fluttered over to the river and watched as the grasshopper, the ladybug, and other bugs laughed and played together. “They look so happy, “ he realized. It was at this moment that it all became clear to the butterfly.
Happiness is not a destination. It is not something one can earn from working hard, or achieving a goal. Happiness is a way of life to be lived each, and every, day. You cannot wait for happiness to happen to you. Happiness is a choice.
We color. We’re happy. Join us. The coloring book just grew up.
